HOKUSAI EXHIBITION. NGV X CIBI

HOKUSAI EXHIBITION. NGV X CIBI - CIBI

He called himself the ‘Old man mad about drawing’, and in his time he went by at least thirty different names. Hokusai was a great and eccentric genius and continues to be one of Japan’s greatest artistic and cultural exports.

Having never actually attained any kind of financial success during his career, his unique way of looking at things and illustrative style has brought him the fame and international regard he never achieved in his lifetime.

To coincide with the amazing new Hokusai exhibition at the national Gallery, we have some created a collection of tenugui with Hokusai images and Hokusai inspired artwork.

Taken from his 36 Views of Mt.Fuji series 1830-34 and perhaps his most famous piece The Great Wave off Kanagawa we have created a series of pieces that reflect Hokusai’s irreverence and skill.

Also available at the NGV Store is a range of Cibi produced porcelain and glass pieces to complement the exhibition.

Featured here are Splash, Blue Cloud, The Great Wave, Red Fuji, Mt Fuji w/Pine, Black Cloud, Chrysanthemum.

Come in to Cibi to see how your tenugui can be used and make sure you see the biggest collection of Hokusai work ever assembled.

Hokusai Exhibition at National Gallery of Victoria from 21 July - 15 Oct.

Listen to the curator, Wayne Crothers explain the collection in this video for The Guardian.
