Kamawanu - Edo Furin - Wind bell

An old book dating back to the Kamakura period (1185-1333) mentions wind-bells being hung under the eaves to ward away evil spirits.

This furin (wind-bell), first made in the Edo period (1603-1868), has a round shape with rough surface on the edge. This is the secret to its refreshing sound.

Listening to the sound of Furin in summer creates a cooling feeling.
